  1. This made me think of how fields like software development have for a long time not required a degree for people to be taken seriously. If you can code it, show it works, and demonstrate you know best practice the degree doesn’t mean much.

    I wonder what fields will lend itself to this kind of “show me” approach. There will have to be more ways to demonstrate knowledge and skill outside of a degree and I think that is where have an online “portfolio” (I don’t really like this term but, it works) of work will come in to play. If you have a place where people can see your thinking and your work I have to imagine this will help show that you really have the skills and the knowledge.

    Now, if I had to design my own curriculum I’d be hopelessly lost haha. Unless studying “everything and anything” could be a focus 🙂

  3. Ha, yes! I have my BA in History but, I’ve taken much interest in math & science since I graduated two years ago. Don’t tell anyone about my little problem though (especially the math part). Oh, and how could I forget I just spent some time learning about scansion so I could participate on a class blog of one of my old professors.
